First Generation is a social term used for those who were the first to be born in the U.S. from immigrant parents or a naturalized citizen. The term has also been widely used to also reference those who were first to attend and complete a college education. Nonetheless,
"first-gen" individuals face many challenges and adversities. These can include relational and interpersonal struggles, conflict within their families, challenges in society, amongst many other issues. For some examples, please see below.
